06.5 Extract tracking column data

If on the invoice file there is a column you can use for tracking, then this column of data can be extracted and exported to Xero.

In this example below, on the invoice file there is a column called Client.

How to set it up?

1. Create a new tracking category in Xero (under Settings -> General Settings -> Tracking) if it does not exist, with the name same as the column heading (in this example, it is called “Client”)

2. Go to Settings > “Advanced Options” > Tracking Column: enter the column name (in this example, Client), and click Save.

Once the above is done, we will be able to export the tracking data on each line to Xero automatically.

Notes

  • the tracking category in Xero needs to be identical to the tracking column label on the invoice and it is case sensitive.
